Our Mission
Aid for Children of War is a humanitarian foundation dedicated to protecting children whose lives have been torn apart by war.
Through emergency relief, humanitarian assistance, and long-term support, we work to restore safety, dignity, and opportunity so that every child affected by conflict has the chance to rebuild their life and grow toward a peaceful future.
Our Vision
A world where every child—regardless of birthplace or circumstance—can grow up in safety and peace, free from violence, fear, and displacement.
Why We Exist
Emina Poricanin
Founder
Our Founding Story
Aid for Children of War was founded by Emina Poricanin, a child survivor of the 1990s conflict in the Balkans. As war engulfed her homeland, Emina and her family fled to a refugee camp in a neighboring country, where they relied on international aid and makeshift camp schools for survival. Eventually, her family resettled in the United States.
Emina was one of the "lucky ones." Her family remained intact, and she was given a second chance at safety, education, and a future. Many children in war zones today are not so fortunate. They are trapped amid violence, famine, and displacement, without access to healthcare, food, shelter, or even basic clothing. They are dying not only from bullets and bombs, but from the slow act of deprivation. The world remains a dangerous place for too many children.
Aid for Children of War, Inc. exists to change that. Inspired by Emina’s own life story, the foundation is committed to reaching children who are caught in modern-day conflict zones and providing them with immediate relief, safety, and hope for a better future.
From one former child of war to countless others still enduring the unimaginable, Aid for Children of War, Inc. is a promise: that no child should be forgotten in times of war.
